Deep Fried Goodies at NY State Fair

Hello All!

I made it my mission to try the deep-fried yummies at the NY State Fair this year. Actually, it's my one and only year of attendance in my three years of living in upstate NY and I decided that food is significant incentive for fighting the crowd and withstanding the heat of the day. I tried the deep-fried cheesecake and deep-fried smore and sugar waffles (also deep-fried).

There are numerous places that sugar waffles can be found at the fair, but only Shamrock's had the deep fried cheesecake and smore. The sugar waffle was light and crispy, sweetened with powdered sugar. It was good but it made me feel a little queezy because I could still feel the oil. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious and I'd even go as far as to say that I'd prefer all my cheesecake deep fried, as long as the cheesecake part is the same as the one I ate at the fair. It was not too sweet and not too dense, which helped balance it out against the oil and batter (surrounding the cake). The deep-fried smore, however, was not as satisfying. It was much too sweet. I ate half of it and tossed the rest. I felt as if I had enough by half.

Hope some of you got to the fair to try some of these goodies. Has anyone tried the deep-fried twinkies or oreos? I didn't try it this time around.
