For those of you trolling Glasgow, looking for something to jump-start your tastebuds, there's a pleasant surprise at the top of Sauchiehall Street. It's called Thai Fountain, and the food was surprisingly good and zippy/spicy. I'm taking into account the possibility that one too many totty scones or fish suppers may have lowered the bar a bit on my Spice-o-meter, but regardless, I enjoyed it a great deal.
Highlights included the chicken and prawn satays (I know, very basic), fried beef with pickled greens, and something called Ahahn Talay, a seafood stew filled w/prawns, mussels, calimari, in a broth fragrant with lemon grass, chilis and Thai basil.
The place is run by very gracious and sweet Malaysians, and is nicely decorated w/subdued spotlights and exotic flowers.
All in all, my zestiest Glaswegian experience!
