This has been quite a quest for me. For the longest time, I've been searching for a "good" set of steak knives. I've been gifted several sets, set about making my own (still uncompleted), and have shopped with interest at various stores and websites. X-nay on serrations, fat "steakhouse" blades/handles, weird profiles. Likewise a nonstarter for a $500 set, especially if it's the pencil-thin Laguiole profile or has zero style. I could never seem to find a knife that would dress up for nicer dinners, but still work for casual. I'd all but given up.
So, when in Paris this month, drooling over all the cook's tools at A. Simon, what did I find but these beauties! Only 7.50 Euro, too! They had ONE left in stock, but they promised they would get more in "tomorrow". After schlepping back to the store twice, I just decided to order 8 and hope they would actually show up in USA.
Today they arrived! 60 Euro plus another 30 for shipping = $108USD, or $13.50 each. Totally thrilled by both the knives and the price. Check that item off my bucket list.
For those who might be interested, they are made by the Spanish cutlery house Comas, and the model is called Zermatt. http://www.comaspartners.com/en/172-z...
