Just finished a torta milanesa and a fish taco from El Granjenal in Costa Mesa. Man, were they were good! When the first bites of a dish immediately makes my mouth all happy, I know I'm going back there again. Ordinarily, I go to El Toro Bravo in this neighborhood - Granjenal is going to get some of my business.
In West CM, I look to Catalina Fish Kitchen or Wahoo's for fish tacos. I'll have to reassess both those choices in favor of the spicy grilled fish they cook up at El Granjenal.
The torta milanesa had a couple thin slices of breaded fried beef - a touch on the greasy side, but the textural contrast between the toasted roll, the crisp milanesa, smooth white Mexican cheese, buttery avocado, onion and jalapeno felt like a Seis de Mayo fiesta.
I've tried two of your rec's this week. Took two people to Irvine Veggie and Tea House this Sunday - had a great meal of tempura veggies, fried baby corn, potato balls and broiled tomatoes. A fun location next to the train tracks and a cool building to boot!
Thanks for both recommendations! For those of you who didn't read davidt's earlier posts,
