I'm posting to general because this is where we discussed it.
Today I went for lunch to Sharon Gardens, "my" Korean place on 23rd street only to find a handwritten note expressing love and thanks to their loyal customers. Today they closed shop. TODAY! I got all teary eyed and choked up, and in a daze of unfulfilled cravings made the error of stopping at a Thai/Japanese/Chinese lunch buffet on the way back to work. They had Run Out Of Steamed Rice. What I say is true. I didn't think that was possible.
As far as I know Sharon Gardens was the only Korean place in town. I feel guilty for not eating every meal there. I think about the regular customers sitting patiently listening to the sizzle, waiting for the next pan of food to appear at the window. There should be a support group. Even if I find another one here, it won't likely be one artist making every dish herself. I'm so disappointed that this city couldn't recognize such a treasure.
