crockpot clattering?

adp0 | Mar 27, 2005 01:09 PM

Just got a new Rival slow cooker "Crockpot" with the removable insert to replace our old Rival without the insert. Our inaugural dish was our overnight crockpot steel-cut oatmeal, which we plugged in last night. At about 4 this morning, my husband was awakened to an intermittent clap............clap.............clapping sound. UPon investigation, he discovered the insert levitating ever so slightly, then dropping back down with a "clap" sound as it hit the metal heating element.

Is this normal? Since we've never had a crockpot with an insert, we don't know. I have checked in with a couple of family members who have them, but wanted to do a wide search with 'hounds before I return it. Thanks!
