How to create this specific vanilla ice cream flavor?

oaklandj | Mar 6, 201907:57 AM     3

About 20 years ago, I bought some vanilla ice cream from a corner market in San Francisco and was mesmerized by the flavor. The closest I can come to describing it is that it had a vanilla or even tapioca pudding cup flavor to it; not a chemical flavor, but something different from standard vanilla ice creams (even the egg-heavy French vanilla kinds). Nothing I've tried since comes close. I thought for a while that it was "honey vanilla" and it might have been (?), but I've tried a couple of commercial "honey vanilla" ice creams and they didn't capture that specific flavor. Really, the closest analogue are those "snack pack" packaged vanilla yogurts.

I've tried in vain for the last 20 years to find that ice cream (I think it was a local brand that went out of business) or at least a recipe so that I can recreate it at home. Does any of this make any sense to anyone else? What should I be looking for?
