Creamy beans!

Hi-

I tried to make soup last wwek since I unexpectedly received a lot of dried and canned cannelini beans.

I soaked the dried beans and made pasta e fagioli. Flavor was excellent but the beans were tough and the skins were chewy.

I had the same problem with the canned beans - which have always worked fine for me. I want the beans to break down slightly and become more tender. What am I doing wrong?
