Cream charger reccomendations

PhotoMike | Jun 14, 201605:37 PM

I was recently given an iSi Gourmet cream whipper. I'm looking for some recommendations of chargers. I know iSi recommends only using iSi chargers, but is there any reason not to use a cheaper off-brand? I don't want to void my warranty or end up with contaminates in my food.

I've googled this topic, but the only side-by-side comparisons of chargers I found was from people using them as inhalants. This is not my intended usage, but I was interested to see that many users reported having lubricant or metal residues after discharging multiple chargers in an empty cream whipper. This was reported from multiple users and multiple brands of chargers including the iSi chargers. Have any of you ended up with residue in your creams or foams from your charger cartridges? Do any of the brands of chargers create off flavors in your food?

My primary usage is going to be creams and foams, but I'm planning to experiment a little with CO2 in the whipper as well. As a follow up, has anyone had positive or negative experiences with specific brands of the CO2 charger cartridges?
