So let me start by saying that we love Tony Mews food and have eaten at Craigie at least once a month for the past year...that said , we have always had uneven service ...we thought a small price for the quality, adventurousness and value of the meal ..tonite I am lost.
reservation at 7;30. seated promptly...no contact 15 minutes. finally waitperson comes by to see if we have ? re menu...we state " no we are ready" and we are informed :" the kitchen isn't ready to take new orders as they are processing orders we just put in" ( not the first time we have been told this but the second time this has happened ...isn't this a restaurant ?) so we say Okay and get glass of wine and fine bread basket is brought ...another 10 or so minutes pass and we are able to place orders . We had as apps the coddled eggs with sea urchin and crab.. reportedly delicious and the foie gras torchon with outstanding brioche ..terrific . 2 glasses of white for each of us to account for delay between ordering and courses. As entrees 1) the veal chop with winter veggies and 2) the winter veggies ( gnocchi, mushrooms , roots and truffles) with very nice bottle of Hermitage ..all the food exceptional By now it is well after 9pm and we are ready to share a dessert and have some coffee...dessert menus are brought and we sit another 15 minutes..we catch eye of waitperson and are informed that " kitchen isn't ready to take dessert orders right now "... isn't this a restaurant?....we ask for check ( another 10 minutes ) and do get a gift cert for 2 desserts on a future visit...but I am not so sure we will be back..unless we have lots of time to languish... without food ..and are willling to wait for the the kitchen to be READY for us ...food is great and we love the ambience but this just felt weird...are we being too impatient????????
