Cover's Apple Ranch grows apples, offers farm tours, and runs a bakery and deli for visitors. The building even has a drive-in window.
However, I went inside to check out everything up close and personal. I'm glad I did, as the family members that operate the place are members of a conservative religious sect and wear garb similar to what I've seen in Mennonite communities.
I purchased a slice of mixed berry pie to enjoy on site, as well as a slice of apple pie to go and some apple cider to charge on my credit card. Whoops, the berry pie turned out to be mediocre with gluey filling and heavy, bland crust. I wouldn't have purchased the apple pie as well if I had tasted first. Pretty disappointing compared to the pies available in Placerville or Julian apple country.
The apple cider turned out to be fine. I managed to keep it cold in an ice bucket in my refrigerator-less hotel room.
