I realized after I posted that I put this on the Boston board and meant to put this here. Sorry to everyone who reads both!!
Has anyone been to the Cove yet? It is in the old Abadessa location on route 3A near Old Navy and Talbots outlet.
2 of us went for lunch today and the place was empty at 12:00 and but had about 5 tables full when we left around 1:00. Decor looked fresh and new. Still dark woods but mostly done in blue and reds/burgundies. Pretty blue candles on the table. Mostly 2 tops but room enough to push tables together and they still have the long booth like benches with tables in front so there is room for bigger parties.
The Food: Basic American cuisine, nothing fancy. Lots of salads, a number of typical apps. Nice basket of bread that came with a plate with butter rosettes drizzled in oil and a rosette of white bean dip. Bean dip was tasty but portion was so small we each only got one small taste. I had the steak tips that came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. I asked for no potato and she offered me a double serving of veggies. Asparagus was cooked perfectly, still crisp/tender. The tips came in a redwine/mushroom sauce which was nice enough but the steak tips were overcooked (I ordered med. rare and these were well past med.) and tasted slightly "off" like they had been marinated too long. My friend had the roasted cod that came with sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes. She ate every bite. Thought it was wonderful but did say that they could have gone easier on the cream sauce on the sauce. We both ordered iced teas. I thought the tea was good but my friend didn't. It was a fruit tea and we were surprised the server didn't mention that when we ordered.
Service: Very nice and helpful but little neglectful in the end. By the time we left there were about 5 tables but only 2 servers and one had to cover the bar as well so that can be forgiven. As we were leaving another server was just coming in so it looks like they must do a late lunch business and haven't quite got the schedule right yet.
Price: expensive for a workday lunch but pretty average for Hingham if you ate at Square Cafe or Stars. Total was $36.00 so with tip it was $43.00. Average entree ran about $15-16. I think sandwiches/salads ran around $8-9 so you could probably get away with cheaper. I believe the menu doesn't change much for dinner so if you add $$ for app's, dessert and coffee (never mind booze) you are looking at a fairly pricey menu for just basic food.
I wold love other opinions, especially if your tried for dinner!
