A couple of dames in search of a non-diner b'fast spot near LAX

spoonlicker | Jun 11, 201511:10 AM

As much as I enjoy diners, greasy or otherwise, I'm looking for something a bit more genteel for a ladies' b'fast somewhere within 10 minutes' drive of LAX.

Ideally, it would be beach-ish or otherwise in a non-bland location.

Complicating factor: my dining companion will be coming via taxi from points south on the 405, so I'm being mindful of the flustercluck traffic along the more beachward routes toward Santa Monica in the a.m. (We are targeting about a 9 a.m. rendez-vous on a weekday.)

I know Playa Provisions has taken a pounding on this board, but am wondering if it might be viable for breakfast?

Is there anywhere in Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, or Westchester that is kinda nice? Not really feelin' the super-casual beach vibe with plastic chairs and picnic tables, but if there is a joint that is otherwise splendid, I'll plop my rump in a patio chair.

No price limitations, all cuisines welcome.

(Cafe del Rey would've been perfect, but they aren't open for breakfast on weekdays as far as I can tell.)

Update: Since she and I will have about 2 hours, I'm thinking maybe 26 Beach, so we can decamp for a stroll on Abbott Kinney or the beach after we eat. Will traffic be super-hideous for her coming off the 405 at about 8:30 am, though?

Any other suggestions in that general area are welcomed.

Playa Provisions,
Cafe del Rey,
26 Beach
