DH and I dined at Corner BYOB in Hampden for the third time this past Saturday night. It was restaurant week, but I found the menu to not be all that different. I think i've figured out their MO: take somewhat shocking ingredients and mash them up with random stuff and make it sound gourmet. Example from this Saturday: DH orders "Kangaroo tartare" and I have the "foi Gras PB&J". DH tries his dish a number of ways, it includes the thinly sliced meat, onions, peppers, pickles, sauce and other strong-flavored toppings. He says basically the meat- what flavor it does have- is awful, and all the toppings mask it. My "PB&J" is just... a weird combo resulting in head-scratching-why-did-you-put-this-together? Toast points piled with highly gelatin foi gras, nutella, multi-berry jam preserves. It did not taste good together. DH's entree of steak was brought out super-rare, despite pronouncements the chef serves it medium-rare- that thing barely touched the grill. my final course of cheese was served freezing cold- even the plate- guess they keep it in the fridge until the moment its served. We won't be returning... I really want to love this place, but third time and the same thing... maybe your experiences are different, but our dining dollars will be walking away from Corner BYOB.
