Has anyone tried Tyler Florence's recipe for Corned Beef & Cabbage? This is my first year making it. Due to some dietary restrictions (mainly salt) and my mom (the cook) being down with the flu, I am going to try to surprise everyone and try this on my own ;) Typically we like a no-frills, no ale, less is more approach to this dish. Saw his recipe and it looked good, but wondering if the number of spices is "typical" in this dish? I know my mom never used cinnamon or cloves as a friend did suggest I use them, and my mom never added beer. I purchased a fresh UNBRINED brisket and also had a question if I need to boil and remove the skim before adding the spices and vegetables? Thanks so much to anyone who can help :)
