cool, hip and good food for london bday dinner -- isola??

My husband and I are coming to London from NYC in early April, and I am trying to track down a cool, hip and delicious birthday dinner spot for him on a Monday night. I have been looking through the board, and while I have seen a number of the recommendations. Capital, for example, looked good but is too fancy and probably sedate for my husband's taste.

In NY, a comparable would be Ilo. Location doesn't matter as long as it is fairly close in to the center. I looked through last year's Time Out Eatingand Drinking guide and came up with Isola and Putney Bridge, and Putney is not open on Mondays, and I have no idea how Isola is now. The new Italian that was mentioned recently sounded good foodwise, but the atmosphere didn't sound so promising. We went to OXO a few years ago, and atmosphere was good there, but service intense (constantly being waited on), and the food o.k.

So, if you have any suggestions, that would be great. Many thanks in advance.
