Cooking classes

I'll be living in New York this summer and would like to broaden my culinary horizons (I understand this is what city living is all about.)I'd very much like to take a cooking class or two, but can't afford the pricey name brand culinary arts schools. Any suggestions for decent instruction at a fair price? Thanks so much.

p.s. I have no prior experience, so even learning the art of stir-fry in someone's basement would fit the bill.
