Perhaps it is the obvious thing to do, but having grown up in a large city I have enjoyed the variety of almost every fruit and veggie available year-round. So I have eaten my share of flavourless, mealy January tomatoes, and am rebelling!
My new culinary pet project is to try to eat only seasonal produce. Living in Toronto - this has it's challenges. This time of year it would be limited to winter squash, potatoes, onions, garlic, and apples. (Harvested in fall, these items would have survived storage in a cold cellar until now)
Has anyone else tried this? I predict that by avoiding the facsimile foods trucked in from wherever - I will enjoy locally grown produce in season all the more. Perhaps I will also get some really creative new ideas for preparing what limited produce is locally available.
I would love to hear about anyone else's experiences.
