I’ve never liked beans. Most any beans. Green beans are good but kidney beans, pinto beans and especially soybeans have always been avoided. I can’t really explain why I don’t like them, texture or flavor or...?
However I was on a trip to Africa and of course the diet was beans and rice nearly every day. The beans there are no different than here. However one time I visited a pastor and his wife cooked lunch (beans and rice). I tried to back out but grudgingly stayed for lunch. I’ve never tasted food so delicious. I had three helpings of beans and rice.
I tried asking what her secret was to make her beans taste so different than any I had ever eaten before. But the language barrier only got me to understand that she prepared them differently than most people.
Of course she prepared them different. Now I’m wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference may have been so that I can cook delicious beans and rice at home. Again all my friends and family fix beans but I avoid. So there has to be a little known secret on preparing beans that is very different than how most people typically prepare them.
