Computers "accidentally" adding 25% gratuity - Pink Door

First let me tell you that I almost always check my receipt, whether it's the restaurant bill or the hardware store, and am shocked and dismayed how often I find irregularities. This being said I will continue.

About 2 weeks ago I had a rather unfortunate incident at the Pink Door regarding a 25% gratuity being added to our tab (their were 4 of us, and it didn't include our bar tab, as we had already adequately compensated the bartender when we closed that tab and moved onto the deck). I didn't have the time to post a message here the next day and had kind of pushed it out of my mind until I heard of 2 more incidents (NOT at the Pink Door).

We didn't check our bill; we were tired and we just put our 2 credit cards in with the tab and asked our server to split the bill evenly. I always liked this method when I was a server because I almost always ended up with a larger tip.

It wasn't until the car ride home that we decided the total on our copy of the receipt was excessive after running through a checklist of what each of us had ordered.

Turns out the server AUTOMATICALLY ADDED a 25% gratuity, and then we EACH tipped 18-20% on top of that!

We immediately called the manager, who began to give us the runaround, but eventually conceded that their "computers" must have been acting up.

We were credited the 25% gratuity on our bill, (although I've yet to receive the VISA bill to verify this), but I've been a server, and let me tell you, I would have noticed a 25% gratuity being added to a guest's check - and the manager seemed annoyed that we had called, which added insult to injury.

My advice is to check your tabs...it seems to be happening more than we realize.

Yes, I know that an automatic gratuity is added for "large" parties, but there were only 4 of us, and we were VERY low maintennance...and everyone else whom this has happened to hasn't been more than a group of 4 either.

Sorry this is so long, but I'm trying to save other people from the hassle of this happening to them.
