Coffeehouses between Redondo Beach and Sherman Oaks

RG | Oct 13, 200401:01 AM

I am meeting someone for coffee this Saturday night. As it happens, we live pretty far from each other, so I am looking for a recommendation somewhere in between.

I am not interested in a place that is terribly trendy or hip. I would also want to stay away from chains. I just want a comfortable, not too crowded place where two people can talk in peace.

The only good coffeeshops that spring to mind immediately are Europane in Pasadena and Aromi in Sherman Oaks. Not only are they not terribly convenient due to the lopsided location, but they are not terribly cozy, even if the food is excellent.

A few years back I was in a charming little coffeeshop in North Hollywood, somewhere near the boundary with the Valley Village. It was a combination bookstore/coffeeshop. It had a small yard in the back, with a wonderful standing swing and comfortable chairs and many little quiet corners. I wish I remembered its name and precise location. Does anyone know what I am talking about, and whether it is still in business?

Anyway, I am looking for something along those lines. Quiet charming place people can talk.

I know the geographic area is very large, but then again, that means there will be plenty of candidates, right? :) Thanks in advance.
