Last night, we were at the Galaxy Club for a little while, and walked down to Citrus Club for dinner - had intentions of Memphis Minnie's, then realized we were in the wrong "Haight." The smells wafting out the door were mouth-watering.
We ordered a calamari salad from their specials to start with, plus a large Kirin. Good idea, since there was some definite spice to the salad. Nice, firm, but not rubbery, squid was tossed in a citrusy vinaigrette with red peppers, tomatoes, scallion, and some other veggies that added flavor and texture. I thought the salad could have used a bit more dressing, but a dash of soy sauce remedied that problem.
I ordered the Shanghai Noodles - soba noodles in a "carmelized soybean glaze" with thinly sliced beef, onion, bok choy, tofu and shiitake mushrooms. YUM!. The soybean glaze is, I think, essentially dark miso paste - very flavorful. A little bit on the salty side, but was still really quite delicious.
Nate had the Citrus Noodle Salad which was also (I think) soba noodles, cold, in a citrusy juicy sauce. It was just OK, I thought. Though, on a hot day, I imagine it would be really refreshing.
Though this was certainly not an "exceptional" meal, it was quite tasty, and the total for both of us, including tip & beer, was $28!
