New (to me) churro cart, Oakland

Ruth Lafler | Feb 12, 200507:17 PM

In my opinion, the fried-dough food group reaches its pinnacle in a fresh-made churro. Unfortunately, fresh-made churros are hard to come by: the churro cart (by which I mean a complete portable churro-making operation, not just a vendor) I used to patronize on International Blvd. hasn't been sighted in many a moon.

But today, feeling guilty that I haven't done much chowhounding recently, I took the ChowCruiser down Foothill Blvd., the secondary commercial street in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood. It was fortunate no one was following too closely as I slammed on my brakes upon sighting a churro cart.

Different guy, but the churros are every bit as good, perhaps even better.

The Ricos Churros cart is located at the front of the parking lot of the All Green Produce market(4095 Foothill, at the corner of Foothill and 41st). He says he's there every day from 4 pm to 8 pm.
