Chow Restaurant on Market - Not for Groups - long

Hello all.

First of all, I have to say I do like the food at Chow, most of the dishes that I've tried in the past have been pretty tasty and well prepared.

The service, however, can me improved alot!
I went to Chow again a couple weeks ago with a bunch of friends to celebrate a birthday. Being a party of 8, we made reservations for 7pm on a Wednesday night.

Well we all arrived there around 6:45pm, let the host know we were all there. They said they were a little slammed at the moment and that our table would be a little late. It was a birthday party, so no big deal, we headed to the bar to have a drink or two before we sat down for the meal.

Well 7pm flew by, soon the time was 7:30pm, and we still had not been seated... We asked about being seated, and the host told us that they still couldn't accomodate us, the people on our table had decided to have dessert and coffee. We asked about putting other tables together in order to accomodate us, and they said that we had a reservation for the table of 8 and they can't move the tables around to accomodate us.

We ordered another drink and waited. At 8pm, we still had not been seated, and we were told the people who were sitting at the table had just received their check, and it shouldn't be too long. Well I've heard of waiting an hour for some of the "in" restaurants during the peak of the dot com, or maybe at some places that are first come, first serve, but never at a place like Home, especially when we had a reservation. Looking around the restaurant, they could have easily put two of the empty tables together to accomodate us. They even had open tables in the "patio" area where they could have seated us. We asked about those, and they said that those tables were reserved for another party that was not there yet.

I wanted to leave at that point, but the majority of people figured we waited that long, we might as well wait a little longer.

We did not get seated until 8:45pm an hour and 45 minutes after our reservation. We did not get menus for another 15 minutes. They dropped the menus in the center of the table then took off. They didn't come back for another 10 minutes to take the drink orders. By that time we were all starving. The manager tried to appease us by comping us with an order of spring rolls - (4 pieces for a party of 8) - maybe she didn't pass math class. We finally ordered at 9:30pm.

It was interesting to note, another table that was seated next to us around 9:15pm, had their order taken right after ours.

The table next to us got their food in about 15 minutes. The entrees for our table came out staggered 20 minutes after we ordered. The last person to get their food was another 45 minutes from when we ordered, so the person that got their food first was already done eating.

All in all, the birthday was fun, the dining experience lacking.

As a side note, we asked to speak to the manager, and the shift supervisor told us that he was told by the server that our order came out 15 min after the kitchen got the order. We finally tracked down the manager and told her of the experience, and she appologized, and said sometimes that happens because they are so busy.

I don't think I will be going back again....
