New chocolatier: Woodhouse Chocolate

JudiAU | Aug 2, 200405:19 PM

We spent the weekend in Napa and stumbled across a new chocolate store on Main Street in St. Helena. I can't find a thread on chowhound about it and they said they had been open around six months.

Pretty, very French interior. Uniformed staff. All the chocolates are in "gallery style" display cases and the orders are hand packed to order. The chocolates are handmade and predictably expensive but because of the prettiness of the packaging and the relatively low entry price, it seems like a good deal. Lovely little box of 12 chocolates for $14/ about 1/4 pd.

The 1/2 pd. is exactly the sort of thing one wants from one's spouse (are you listening?) and at $28, exquisite compared to other brands.

But the flavors! These are deeply flavored, wonderfully spiced chocolates. I have tried the fresh mint, pistachio, and quatre espice so far. Utterly delicious, two-bite wonders. Other flavors that I have purchased and do not intend to share: orange flavored marzipan, honey, champagne, etc.

I am not a big fan of white chocolate but they had a larger than usual number of chocolates made from it for those who are.
