Chinatown update

Deborah Pastor | Apr 22, 199904:41 PM

The only positive thing about 1 month of grand jury
was being in Chinatown. I loved the produce stands,
the fish etc...and can offer recommendations should
anyone want. But a big disappointment was the Chinese
restaurants. Granted, it was better than the Upper
West Side, and granted I often ate alone, but I never
had any great dishes (I didn;t go to my all time
favorite dim sum place, Triple Eight). The soup buns
were good at Goody's and Joe's Shanghai, but not as
good as I remembered them from a couple of years ago.
(I did not get to Evergreen). I did have very good
vegetarian food at Vegetarian Paradise on Mott, near
Pell. But my only rapturous dining experiences were
at Malaysian places. Nyonya (sp?) on Grand was
exceptional. The Roti and the oyster omelet were
wonderful. Jaya was also good. Once, at Triple
Eight, I ordered their Malaysian oxtail stew which was
great, even friends who had lived in Malaysia liked
it. I wonder if they still have their Malaysian
menu.
