Just got back from China... any tips on where I can get the same grub in L.A.?

Just returned from a month in China, zig-zagging East to West from Hong Kong in the South to Beijing in the North.

Loved the food, enjoying many regional dishes. Best advice is to travel in a group of 8-12.
Chinese food is best served banquet style and with this group size you get to sample 8-10 dishes rather than the single one you order.

Previous to this trip I preferred other asian cuisines, probably because my Chinese food experiences were impacted by the tamed western-style places found here (and worldwide). It doesn't help that many people think that Panda Express is the best place in town.

While I liked many of the more dynamic dishes, I really loved the simple plates... a platter of bok choy seasoned with garlic, or eggplant with ginger, or egg & tomato. Simplicity.

I've been to the Cantonese dim sum places downtown. They are fine. However I would love some feedback on eateries where a couple or group can sample a variety of freshly cooked dishes from throughout the country for a reasonable price. For example, is there a good place where you can grab several selections for cheap?

Any thoughts?
