Chilling meat in freezer after shopping trip.

When I get home from a food shopping trip I put fresh meat & (especially) seafood in the freezer for about 25 minutes to super chill it, then I transfer to refrigerator. I feel this extends shelf life. It's obviously more important to do this in the hot months than in the winter. Do you do this or is it in any way a bad idea?
