little chicken house - pacific grove

I was at our department retreat at Asilomar this year, looking for places to eat since the food at the conference center was not palatable. I went to the Little Chicken House - a hole in the wall that has a drive through window. I am glad I went because they have excellent barbecue. I ate there twice in one day, I liked it so much.

My favorite was the bbq pork - tender and not drowning in bbq sauce. The bbq ribs and the rotisserie chicken were also excellent. The meat was always very moist, tender and falling off the bone. I also had the hot links - they were good but the three items mentioned above were better.

Side dishes: They have good coleslaw, but their cornbread was not great. It was served like a muffin so that half the cornbread ended up stuck to the side of the paper muffin cup. The outside was dry, and the inside was undercooked. My friends liked the baked beans and the mashed potatoes, but I never tried them myself.

I am definitely going back next year. The food is good and it is cheap - half a rack of ribs is $10, most dinner meals are $8-9, lunch sandwiches are cheaper.

The address is:
1193 Forest Ave
Pacific Grove, CA 93950

PS If anyone has other places they like near the Asilomar conference center, I'd like to hear about them.
