Chicago Pizza in Nashville

RadioGeno | Oct 20, 2002 10:34 PM

I'm an old Chicago boy, and have been in Nashville for the better part of five years now. Until recently, I was disappointed at the lack of a truly good pizza. There's even a place that calls itself "Chicago Pizza", and claims to offer it, but ... ugh.

Well ... check out Vinny's, at Lebanon Road and Andrew Jackson Parkway, next to the Kroger store in Hermitage. The owner/manager is a former Chicagoan, and he is passionate about bringing you the best pizza. He imports five varieties of cheese for his pies. And he flies-in Italian sausage twice a week.

This is not one of those thick, doughy Chicago tourist pizzas. This is a thin-crust, Sicilian-style, mom-and-pop Chicago neighborhood pie, like the ones I grew up enjoying. I recommend just mushrooms (they're thick and juicy, almost like portabellas!) and Italian sausage. You will love this pie, piled wall-to-wall with your favorite toppings and those five delicious, fragrant cheeses.

Vinny just gave me a free sample of his new lasagna the other night. It rocks, too! And he offers Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches, for a unique meaty treat.

Head on over there. You will not be disappointed. There are a couple of tables, if you want to eat-in.
