I paid my second visit to chestnut this weekend, dinner for 3 at 8 on Sunday -- no reservation, seated immediately, pouring rain might have had something to do with it.
Hostess and waitress delightful as usual -- they are very clear with their specials, stating the price after a full description. We ordered 3 apps -- the scrumptious liver pate on toast with pear slices, grilled octopus with turnip and roasted pepper, and a cold plate of lentils, goat cheese and eggplant. The octopus was very good and the fresh vegetable pairings are creative. The standout feature of the restaurant is fresh, diverse rustic ingredients, simply prepared and creatively paired. The lentil-goat cheese-eggplant was only ok, I'm not a big lentil fan and cold eggplant is nothing to write home about. I had a burger with fries (requested vinegar for the fries which I promptly received), GF had a sea bass filet with tostones and an empanade which was interesting and friend had roast lamb which looked great and which he enjoyed. Finished it off with homemade coffee-caramel icecream which was nice.
Total with 2 glasses of wine, $88. This place is fast becoming a favorite for good meals with good company.
