The temperature climbed higher and higher yesterday afternoon with each mile towards home. Soon it was 85 degrees. Summer and ice cream weather were finally here! I celebrated with a stop at Downtown Bakery & Creamery in Healdsburg for a taste of summer. The red-orange hued Sunset sherbet was a zingy blend of orange, other citrus and strawberry and was studded with small whole berries. Cassis (black currant) ice cream was incredibly intense in color and flavor with a long-lasting tart finish. Quite lovely for a cold dinner, and especially enjoyable sitting outside in the warmth of the day with a cup in hand on the bakery's sidwalk bench emblazoned a quote from Brigette Bardot: "Public opinion? I sit on it."
