After the discussion on the NYC to Maine "where to have lunch in Boston" thread below, and the fear of the "for lease" sign in the bakery window, I took one for the team and went to investigate this afternoon. No worries, people!
They had the custard pastries and two others flavors - one a sweet bean and one an orange flavor. When I asked what they were called, the answer just sounded like zhuh-zhuh-something which is about all the Portuguese I know anyway, but the name certainly wasn't "pasteis de nata" or whatever the other one was that galleygirl mentioned. Regardless, they're fabulous and the woman behind the counter tells me that the best is to keep them in the fridge and give them a very quick zap in the microwave and they're fresh all over again. Also - the woman tells me that the building changed owners and that's why the "for lease" sign was in the window, but no worries, they're not going anywhere.
