A friend of mine asked if I would ask my food peeps a question, so here you go:
My dad started going on about some dessert that his mother used to make, and I want to try to make it for him. He thinks that it is Eagle evaporated milk boiled in the can until it's caramel, then poured over (cake/graham cracker crumbs?) in an ice cube tray and topped with whipped cream and frozen. I think I can figure out the caramel part, but am not sure what the bottom layer is (and never tasted it myself, so I have no idea what is was). She was Russian, if it matters.
I posted this on General Chowhound and someone suggested it was likely sweetened/condensed milk and not evap, which I agree with, but haven't gotten many other tips. Anyone else have anything?
