Cafe Monti in Alexandria, VA

My wife and I had lunch here yesterday. Café Monti is a small Italian/Austrian restaurant at 3250 Duke Street (near Quaker Lane) in Alexandria, VA. Seems to be family run. We both enjoy the food very much. I had a chicken parmigiana sub and she had the lentl soup. We also shared a mixed green salad and I took a piece of the chocolate cream cake to go. We couldn’t help but hear the folks behind us rave about their Austrian Goulash.

The prices are very reasonable and they always run numerous daily specials so we usually end up sharing a few dishes. Besides the above, we have also enjoyed the fresh mozzarella and tomato, mussels marinara, linguini and clam sauce and various veal and chicken dishes. They also have some good home-made desserts including tiramisu and several strudels. The only dish I have not thoroughly enjoyed is the pizza. But being from NJ, my standards are usually a little higher here. Everything else has been terrific. Meals are always served hot, and the salads and vegetables very fresh. Wine is also available.

This is a small restaurant and customers place their orders at the counter which are then brought to their table when ready. Customers are also asked to bus their tables. This may be an issue for some, but it’s not for us. The staff is very friendly. Highly recommend it for lunch or dinner.
