Burgundy Wine Dinner at Vetri

We had a lovely evening at Vetri Cucina (the upstairs part of Vetri) last night. It was attended by about 14 people. Information on these events is available at VetriCucina.com. The dinner included five scheduled courses, plus preliminary appetizers, and burgundy wines for each course. In addition there was an additional cheese course (I think the cheese may have been brought by one of the guests) plus a very special wine that I believe was brought by another guest. The seating is at a communal table and the wine crystal was beautiful. Part of the enjoyment of the evening is the opportunity to talk to other wine lovers during the pre-seating portion and then to others seated at the table. The wines were described by a sommelier and the food by the chef. The event lasted almost four hours which was good given all the wine consumed. I was a little concerned when I read the description of the second course "Pig's Head Stuffed with Fennel and Apple" but it was delicious and looked similar in appearance to a crab cake. Vetri is a very special restaurant and I admit that their regular dinner there with both parties having the wines to accompany it is at least a $600 evening with tax and gratuity. This event, while expensive, was significantly less than that.
