Someone posted a month or two ago about Royal India, the Bengali restaurant on Mass Ave between Central and Kendall in Cambridge. I'm Bengali, so I had to try it. I knew it had to be good when I walked in because half the clientele appeared to be Indian grad students. The verdict: just like home cooking. It's not the most stunning restaurant food you'll ever eat, but it's very much like a meal you'd get served at someone's house.
The buffet is $7.95 on the weekends and contained dal, aloo gobi (cauliflower and potato curry), goat and chicken curry, fried fish, the omnipresent tandoori chicken, a cabbage dish, little samosas, pakoras, and rice pudding. When I'm craving my mom's cooking, I'll go back and try the regular menu.
