Good day.. Early Saturday evening and we ventured past Gorikee for a change, and descended upon My Brothers (on Ventura blvd. in Woddland Hills). Real swell BBQ and fixins', of the stick to your ribcage variety. Nothing revelatory or rapturous here, just good and plenty homestyle cooking. Lots on the menu, from BBQ combos to french dips and more. I indulged in the baby back pork rib and beef rib combo, with two sides and cheesy bread ($17.95). Both the pork and beef ribs had a chew to them, but they were well done and gave way to eager incisors. Sauce was sweet with just a hint of vinegar, but mild with no heat. My sides were a fine heap of non-wilted coleslaw and some sturdy baked beans with hints of pork shreds. The cheese toast was non-essential salt and fat which I nevertheless ate because it was there ;-). Wife had the BBQ chicken, again no rending of the cosmic fabric, but solid, saucy fowl play. Her side of garlic mashed potatoes was outstanding, like a silky spud puree with the garlic flavor strutting prominently center stage. I'd get a double order of these to go, next time. Desserts here are pies and more pies (banana cream, coconut cream, key lime, custard, lemon meringue, etc.)... I found My Brothers to be in the tradition of the Bear Pit in Mission Hills, a blue collar bastion of honest grub served by friendly staff. Oh, and they give you cool massive re-usable plastic bibs printed with: I LOVE RIBS, which I proudly wore out the door into the otherwise anonymous cloak of the valley night.
