Brisket: Marinated, smoked, difference between smoked and corned beef?

Just got back from Montreal. The smoked beef at Schwartz's was wonderful. I don't have a smoker, and I have no idea what they marinated the meat in for several days before smoking it, but I'd love
to approximate.

Any recipes to suggest? I often make a brisket in a slow cooker, with barbecue sauce, but it still does not resemble corned beef in any way.
It's the marinade I'm curious about.
