I noted with interest a $3.50 breakfast special sign outside Dessert Time, the new snack shop on Harrison near Beach. Limster posted on this place a few weeks ago. There is a choice of from a list of sweet and savory items and a congee. The sticky rice with dried shrimp was not ready, but the sweet ladies behind the counter recommended the cheung fun (steamed rice noodle) with shrimp or beef. I ordered the shrimp cheung fun and a congee with preserved duck egg and pork. To my delight, the cheung fun was freshly made before my eyes with rice flour batter poured on a lightly greased hot pan and raw shrimp were added to the top to cook to a succulent juiciness. The beef (with scallion) was also prepared this way and seemed to be a favorite of the regulars and I will definitely try this next time. The congee was a little watery for my taste but fine for breakfast and had a good amount of 1000 year old egg and sliced roast pork. All in all a pleasant and inexpensive breakfast and good change of pace.
