This is my grandmother's recipe for Bread and Butter pickles. It is very simple but soooo good! Hope you all will have a chance to try them this summer.
GG'S BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES
4 quarts of kirby cucumber slices
6 large onions sliced
1/4 cup salt lots of ice
Combine cucumbers and onions in a large container. sprinkle with salt
then cover with ice and ice water. Keep cold for 2 or 3 hours.
3 cups vinegar 8 buds of garlic sliced
5 cups of sugar 2 tsps,each of mustard seed,
2 cups water celery seed, and tumeric
2 green peppers, sliced
combine all of the above in a large pot and bring to a rolling boil.
Rinse cukes and onions. Drop into the pickling solution. Return
to a boil and boil for three minutes. Seal in sterile jars.
