Blogs vs. the Mainstream press and food/restaurants

I'm thinking now that everyone has blogs and they are inescapable, why are critics still gainfully employed at tenured perches at newspapers around the country. Is it because of their journalistic stature, and the possible accodolades they have received and near Pulitzer prize misses for critical writing, even if they have no taste or no discernment whatsoever for good food?

Aren't bloggers just as good as determing what's good out there? As a case in point, the senior restaurant critic for the New York Times has a new blog section, devoted to other restaurant goings on besides his one restaurant review a week in the times Wednesday section.
