Blah Experience at Tartine

I know many people really like Tartine croissants but after having ingested two of them last weekend I'm wondering what the fuss is about. These things were huge, rubbery and dry. They were nothing like their soft buttery yeasty cousins. I was bitterly disappointed.Someone, I think Melanie, mentioned that a bread joint on Polk was superior.Is it worth checking this out?Or am I doomed to eating crappy croissants forever?
