Which beer to use in braising back ribs

I'm making pork back ribs for a few friends and wanted to braise them in beer; I've made many braised dishes in the past (roast beef, boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin), but never ribs and never with beer. Does it matter which type of beer I use like dark ale vs cider ? Does one work better / worse ?
