Well, it's that time of year again when many New Yorkers head out to Fire Island or the Hamptons to lounge about in their beach houses, on the sand and have general beach-related fun.
I'm always surprised that the same Manhattanites that count carbs, or fat and survive on Tic Tacs and Marloboros during the week will let themselves go and compete to see who can make the best tasting dinners, weekend after weekend. Including some of the best desserts I've had ever. (e.g., Bread pudding made with old donuts and dried fruit...YUM!)
Any suggestions? Grilling is great, as are main courses, but I'm more interested in "sides" that are easy to make, capture the summer but will keep my reputation alive as being a good cook.
Somethings I make:
- yellow squash and grilled peaches with red pepper flakes
- horseradish mashed potatoes
- roasted haricots and lemon butter
Also, please nothing about that beer can chicken, I love it but can never get myself togethe in time to make it.
