In the past couple weeks I have been to Bay Ridge twice, even though it's about a 2 hr drive on the weekends from upper Manhattan.
I am so jealous that you have Le Maison du Couscous and Tanoreen in your neighborhood, along with what look like great Spanish and Italian restuarants. It's also a beautiful neighborhood this time of year. Any suggestions for other fantastic restaurants there?
At Le Maison du Couscous we had a lamb couscous with dried fruit and nuts --excellent, and a shellfish tagine (just ok). We also had amazing Moroccan salads. We decided to take a last minute trip to Morocco, party inspired by this place. The server/owner really gets into "guiding" you around the menu, you need a little um, gumption to tell him what you want because he tries so hard to Control your experience in the best way possible. But that is part of the charm because it is a beautiful small, warmly decorated restaurant and the meat dishes and salads really are first rate.
At Tanoreen we had excellent, really one-of-a kind for NY, Lebanese food. I can't believe how bad most take-out places are compared to this, but that's besides the point. We had babbaganoush, stuffed grape leaves with meat, and the cauliflower salad with tahini and pomegrante syrup. For entrees we had the chicken with pita and onion -- very tasty, and the stuffed baby eggplant. This food is the best Lebanese, i.e. Middle Eastern food we have found in NYC/Westchester/Jersey.
