Basic Turkey Math

We are again staying downtown for a fencing competition. Last year I went to buy smoked slice turkey at a grocery store on St Catherine, west of Guy. Needed 1 pound US. Clerk looked confused, so I tried 1/2 kilo , clerk still confused, so I tried 500 grams, no luck. Finally told her to slice until I said "enough". Is there some weighing lingo I'm missing. In Italy they measure by the "etto" (100 g). Is there some similar lingo in Montreal French?

By the way if someone has a recommendation for smoked turkey in downtown Montreal that would be great.
