At a family lunch at Yoko in Oakland (Mom's latest fave) she ordered a tofu dish called Zao Zhou Tofu on the menu which she pronounced totally differently in Cantonese. It was tofu stir fried with straw mushrooms and Unknown Matter: UM was shaped like 1x3" strips of chow fun, but spongy w/tiny brown freckles. It was soft yet kind of crunchy. It was strangely good, but the strangest thing was that none of us had ever eaten it before and had no clue what it was. Could it have been the bamboo pith I've often read about in these postings?? If not, what?
