A warning to all Chowhounds. Avoid the 9th Ave. Pesce Pasta at all costs. Took some visitors from out-of-town there last evening (they needed a place close to Port Authority), and our experience was frightening. The waiter (who seemed to run the place) refused to provide tap water and told us we only had two choices--still or fizzy. He was agitated that we demanded tap water and then just poured us bottled water that we didn't want. He then recited the house specials (only two of them) and said they were the only things worth ordering. Of course, he did not mention prices. When I requested a side order of pasta to go with my fish special, he refused to accept the order, stating that the fish should not be paired with pasta. I also asked if we could share an appetizer -- got no answer...Then three appetizers appeared, we were starving, so we ate them. And the tomatoes, cheese and roasted peppers were terrible. The cost for this hostile disaster? $158 for three people without tip. We could have eaten at Esca for that price. So, buyer beware and avoid this place. I've been to the Pesce Pasta on the UWS many times, and have had decent and reasonably priced food.
