A chowhound some time back suggested that Sweetpeas be given a try for breakfast. My wife and I did try it and it was the first time I can remember that we walked out of a restaurant.
The place was about 1/2 full. The teenager pouring coffee promply brought us two cups. It had to be the worst and weakest coffee I have ever had. At $1.95 per cup it was inexcusible. We both took a sip and then waited for the waitress to come. After about 10 minutes of waiting I spotted the coffee girl and called her over to the table and explained that the coffee was terrible. She mumbled something and then to the back of the serving area. After another 5 minutes of still no waitperson, we decided to leave. I went to the cash register and explained that we had no waitress at the table and the coffee was undrinkable. I offered to pay for the coffee (which I should not have done) and she promptly charged the $4.00 plus for the coffee.
I did ask for the name of the owner who was not present and I will write a letter today.
We went down to the Edelweiss on Lincoln Way downtown and had a very enjoyable breakfast.
My advice is to avoid Sweetpeas at all costs.
